On December 15, 2010 we had our first son, Noah David Smith. This is one of the first pictures we took with him as he entered the world.
I couldn’t believe how incredibly beautiful he was, and he couldn’t hold that huge smile of his back. It wasn’t until a few hours later that I discovered the reason for that huge grin! You see, our little boy came into the world with a secret that his mom and didn’t know about; he had an extra 21st chromosome. Noah was born with Down Syndrome. Little did we know that this little boy of ours was about to change our life (for the better) in ways we never even imagined…!
This website is an attempt to document the journey of our family,and especially our son, Noah. We want to show the world what life is like raising a child born with Down syndrome. Additionally, it is our hope that the stories (told through videos, images, and words) found on this website will be a source of strength and encouragement to the many families who have children with special need, or who have received a Down syndrome diagnosis. I have no idea what God has in store for our family, but it is going to be awesome watching it unfold. We invite you to join the story with us.

Your Noah is such a doll! My Noah didn't keep his secret...he revealed it at 17 weeks, so we were prepared for all that extra....Love, squishes, neck fat kisses (my personal fave), space between toes for easy cleaning and tickling...and the list goes on. Loving your blog.
Oh my goodness What a doll. This is the first time I am looking at you website/blog and I'm loving it. I watched a minute ago the video of Noah and Mom at home having quality time but didn't get to comment on it since this part didn't pull up there!! I love that video I watched it a couple of time just to see that big ole grin of his that is so precious as his Mommy was singing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star!! What a doll baby is he!!

Firstly I just want to tell you what a little angel Noah is! He just SO CUTE!!! I recently found your blog thru facebook and can't wait to read thru the previous entries and catch up with Noah. Can't wait to see what kind of a person he develops into!
I was wondering, did you wife have any abnormalities in her blood work or at the abnormality sonogram, was there any indication Noah would be born with Down Syndrome? I was just recommended to this website not too long ago and I have enjoyed reading your story!
Tara, nope. We didn't know until a few hours after Noah was born. We had no idea Noah would be born with Down syndrome. It was a complete surprise to us. I'm glad you found our website. Do you have a child with Down syndrome?
Hello Rick! I do not have a child with Down Syndrome (I do have a 17 month old son), but I was shown a link to your website by a friend and have since been keeping up with your updates and photos of Noah! I remember thinking to myself what would happen if I found out my son had DS and all the fears and everything that comes with the unknown and after reading your posts, it's encouraging to see how well you and your wife have overcome a lot of adversity.
