At the time of this video Noah’s almost 15 months old and the duck tail quickly growing down the back of his neck is telling us he’s way past due for his first haircut!
I seriously wish I would have snapped a picture of it (the duck tail) before it was cut off just so you can see how country he looked! Not that there’s anything wrong with the country look per say, I just don’t think Noah’s all that into it.
See what I mean?
There are lots of places that specialize in giving children haircuts, but instead of using Snip-Its or one of the many other children salons out there, I decided to bring Noah where I go for his first hair cut. I’ve had the same hair stylist for almost 5 years now and I consider him a friend. So one day as I was getting my own hair cut I mentioned that it was time for Noah to get his first haircut and thought it would be fun to have Brett (my friend) cut it. And although he doesn’t really cut baby’s hair, he agreed, so it was on.
(By the way, I know it sounds sort of uppity-up to say stylist….especially since I’ve a guy, but that’s what Brett is, a stylist! I guess I could say “the guy who cuts my hair” but that sort of seems to discredit his experience and training, and he’sawesome at what he does. So stylist it is.)
We didn’t know how well Noah would do with someone trying to come at him with scissors, but I have to say he actually did pretty well. As you can see in the video I had to hold him pretty tightly to keep him steady, but he didn’t really cry or scream. (By the way, the video makes it look like I’ve got him in a choke hold or something…I don’t. It’s just a wacky camera angle.) So all in all I think he, and Brett, did a great job!
What do you think? Sharp looking kid, huh?
Looking all grown up after his first hair cut!
If you’re looking for a great place to get your child’s first hair cut, I wouldn’t suggest using a grown up hair salon. (No offense Brett!)
The only reason we got Noah’s haircut where we did is because I’m friends with the guy who cuts my hair (better?) and we thought it would be fun for him to cut Noah’s hair for the first time. We would never pay for Noah to get his hair cut at agrown up salon, plus the places geared toward children have special training and they cut children’s hair all day every day. They know how to deal with crying, scared, screaming babies, and their environment is much more tailored to them.
We didn’t plan on using Brett for Noah’s haircuts going forward, this just a one time thing for fun. From here on out we’ll be taking Noah to a more kid friendly place that specializes in doing children’s hair cuts. Plus, Noah’s a baby. There are no ladies checking out his hair cut at this age (well, maybe one.) So don’t think I didn’t think about simply trying to cut his hair myself at home (in fact, I’ve given him a quick trim once before.)
Who knows, maybe I need to grab one of these!
All done, and ready to go play!
